Uncharted 4 may have wrapped up series hero Nathan Drake&#8217;s story, but that doesn&#8217;t necessarily put a cap on where the franchise could go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I think we can say for certain that we can never say never. Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love&#8211;that the studio loves. It&#8217;s a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that,&#8221; Escayg said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a-cryptic-photo\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A cryptic photo<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Escayg, in February of 2026, posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/shaun_escayg\/p\/DU1ucoVD3zX\/\" data-target=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vague Instagram photo<\/a> of a cannon in a tropical environment that was captioned &#8220;research.&#8221; People are theorizing that Escayg went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resetera.com\/threads\/a-creative-director-at-naughty-dog-shared-a-photo-with-the-caption-research-and-it-matches-the-vibes-of-a-certain-franchise.1481686\/\" data-target=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fort George at Trinidad and Tobago<\/a> to help research a new Uncharted game. It&#8217;s rumored that <a href=\"https:\/\/nationaltrust.tt\/location\/fort-george\/\" data-target=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">merchants stored records and valuables at Fort George<\/a>, further fueling the connection to Uncharted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing is certain, of course, and Escayg might have been referencing pretty much anything with his post, or nothing at all.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-2026-rumors\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2026 rumors<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most recently, multiple reports said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-5-is-reportedly-in-development-and-will-feature-nathan-drake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Naughty Dog is making a new Uncharted game<\/a>, and it&#8217;s not another remake. Instead, it&#8217;s said to be a new game, and that Nathan Drake actor Nolan North could appear in some manner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, North said he&#8217;s definitely game to come back, if he&#8217;s asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c110%. Absolutely. I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it. It just depends if Sony wants to make money,\u201d he said at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dm_q0c-1MPg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gamergy in Puerto Rico<\/a> prior to the recent rumors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-5-release-date-trailer-story\/1100-6539504\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uncharted 5<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DomTheBomb\/status\/2107143160124396026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">via DomTheBomb<\/a>). \u201cI absolutely would. I try to stay in shape just in case. I can\u2019t see a scenario where I would say no. I always keep out hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-else-is-naughty-dog-working-on\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What else is Naughty Dog working on?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/canceled-last-of-us-online-game-was-very-close-to-done-and-doing-really-well-internally-says-dev\/1100-6539185\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6539185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancelling The Last of Us Online in 2023<\/a>, Naughty Dog said it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/naughty-dog-has-two-single-player-games-in-development-described-as-ambitious-and-brand-new\/1100-6519980\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6519980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two single-player games in development<\/a>. One is the new IP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/gallery\/intergalactic-the-heretic-prophet-trailer-story-setting-and-everything-else-we-know\/2900-6082\/\" data-ref-id=\"2900-6082\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet<\/a>, and the other remains a mystery. Some believe it could be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/the-last-of-us-3-release-date-trailer-story\/1100-6531075\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6531075\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Last of Us: Part III<\/a>, which Naughty Dog has seemingly teased time and again over the years. Studio head Neil Druckmann previously said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-5-could-happen-with-another-developer-di\/1100-6438426\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6438426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uncharted 5 could happen with a different developer.<\/a> Naughty Dog would assist an outside studio to help make sure whatever team made a hypothetical new Uncharted game would get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-5-could-happen-with-another-developer-di\/1100-6438426\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6438426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;essence&#8221;<\/a> right, Druckmann explained.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"theres-no-story-left-for-us-to-tell\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;There&#8217;s no story left for us to tell&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, just ahead of Uncharted 4&#8217;s release, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-4-interview-naughty-dog-on-crafting-a-le\/1100-6437139\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6437139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Druckmann told GameSpot<\/a> that there was no guarantee that Naughty Dog would leave Uncharted behind forever, but he sounded pretty sure that would be the case. &#8220;There&#8217;s no story left for us to tell,&#8221; Druckmann said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Looking at the three games as setup, Uncharted 4 is the payoff,&#8221; he elaborated. &#8220;If we&#8217;re telling these stories honestly, and we&#8217;re being honest with who these characters are, then we have to say, &#8216;This is it, there&#8217;s nothing else left to tell with this character. This is how it ends, and there&#8217;s nothing to go on after that.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dovetailing with the above mention of how another studio could make a new Uncharted game, Druckmann told us in 2016 that someone could pitch Naughty Dog on a prequel and the studio might agree to that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the possibility of a prequel, some fans are wondering if a fifth game could take place after the events of Uncharted 4 and be told through the lens of Cassie, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena. In fact, the epilogue of Uncharted 4 had players playing as Cassie, walking through their home and discovering some of her father&#8217;s artifacts that he himself found on his many journeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The previous Uncharted games told Nathan Drake&#8217;s story, and 2017&#8217;s The Lost Legacy told a story from Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross&#8217; perspective.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"some-planning-for-uncharted-5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;Some planning&#8221; for Uncharted 5<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, there was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/uncharted-5-underwent-some-planning-years-ago-report-says\/1100-6539244\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6539244\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;some planning of an Uncharted 5&#8221;<\/a> prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Henderson didn&#8217;t have any further details about these apparently plans or what the story for a fifth Uncharted game might be&#8211;only that the idea was kicked around in some manner. That only makes sense from a business and planning perspective, of course. The Uncharted series is well-known, has passionate fans, and has been dormant for a while, making it a potential prime candidate for a new entry to appeal to fans and create new ones.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"naughty-dog-chooses-what-it-makes-based-on-passion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Naughty Dog chooses what it makes based on passion<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann said in 2023 that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/naughty-dogs-neil-druckmann-we-have-chosen-our-next-game\/1100-6512308\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6512308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he feels lucky<\/a> that studio owner Sony trusts the company enough to allow Druckmann and other key decision-makers to choose what they make next. He said at the end of every project, &#8220;We purposefully explore several different projects&#8221; for what comes next. &#8220;Some of them might be a sequel, and then a bunch of new ideas. And then we feel like, &#8216;Where do our passions lie?'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Giving Naughty Dog the freedom to choose its own projects makes sense. After all, Naughty Dog has delivered hit after hit for Sony, presumably earning them respect and reputation. At the same time, of course Sony management would be involved in some capacity in meetings about what comes next. A variety of perspectives are no doubt calculated when Naughty Dog sets out to make a new game.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"naughty-dog-has-released-nothing-new-on-ps5-so-far\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Naughty Dog has released nothing &#8220;new&#8221; on PS5 so far<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naughty Dog has not released a &#8220;new&#8221; game during the PS5 generation. The Last of Us: Part II was released in 2020 for PS4 but didn&#8217;t come to PS5 until 2024 in the form of a remaster, of sorts. There was also 2022&#8217;s The Last of Us Part I, a remake of the 2013 game for PS5. A remastered version of The Last of Us: Part II was released for PS5 in January 2024. These are technically &#8220;new&#8221; games, but they are not brand-new games.
