It currently stands at $247.6 million worldwide.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RESIDENT EVIL \u2013 Official Trailer (4K)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mNd1gb19A-c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What&#8217;s propelling Resident Evil higher was its release in China this week&#8211;it debuted there on October 5, and it&#8217;s expected to make $35 million in China for its first week. If this comes to fruition, Resident Evil should pass $280 million globally this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The previous Resident Evil movies from director Paul W.S. Anderson also performed phenomenally in China. The last one, 2016&#8217;s The Final Chapter, made $159.5 million in China alone, making up more than 51% of the movie&#8217;s worldwide gross of $312.2 million. It&#8217;s the highest-grossing Resident Evil movie ever. Cregger&#8217;s Resident Evil still has work to do to catch up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cregger&#8217;s earlier movie, 2022&#8217;s Barbarian, made $46 million worldwide. Long before that, Cregger made Miss March, and it earned $4.6 million worldwide. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of all video game movies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/gallery\/highest-grossing-video-game-movies-of-all-time\/2900-3968\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/gallery\/highest-grossing-video-game-movies-of-all-time\/2900-3968\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resident Evil ranks No. 17<\/a>, but if it does indeed reach $280 million, it will pass 2018&#8217;s Tomb Raider ($274.6 million worldwide).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resident Evil is doing great commercially and scored solid reviews from critics, so people might expect a sequel. That could happen, but Cregger has said he&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/resident-evil-director-says-he-wont-do-a-franchise-movie-again\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/resident-evil-director-says-he-wont-do-a-franchise-movie-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finished with franchise movies<\/a>, even though he <a href=\"https:\/\/theplaylist.net\/zach-cregger-austin-abrams-resident-evil-sequel-ideas-interview-20260904\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/theplaylist.net\/zach-cregger-austin-abrams-resident-evil-sequel-ideas-interview-20260904\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">does have ideas for more stories<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cregger&#8217;s next movie is The Flood, a deep-space sci-fi movie starring Jennifer Lawrence.
