Bill Skarsgard has been cast in the lead role of Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game, Physint, Kojima Productions has announced. The project is being developed in partnership with Xbox after PlayStation stepped away from the game earlier this year.
Known for his roles in It, John Wick, and Boy Kills World, Skarsgard will take the role of the player character in the game alongside previously announced cast members including Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.
Kojima has previously described Physint as an action-espionage game that will blur the line between games and movies, bringing together talent from both industries. The game’s title remains largely provisional, and details about its story and gameplay are still being kept under wraps. However, during the Xbox at Tokyo Game Show broadcast, Kojima also explained that the game is “unbound by any existing genres in digital entertainment.”
Physint was originally being developed with PlayStation, but PlayStation Studios withdrew from the project in June. Kojima subsequently spent around three months looking for a new partner before reaching an agreement with Xbox. The deal expands the existing relationship between Xbox and Kojima Productions, who are also working together on the experimental horror game OD.
Kojima Productions and Xbox have also said they intend to explore film and television projects together, expanding their collaboration beyond games.
There is currently no release date for Physint, but the game is expected to arrive after OD, which is further along in development.
